## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FINAL APPROACH FOR LANDING ON RUNWAY 25R, PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A WIND SHEAR, AND LOST ALTITUDE. PILOT THEN TRIED REGAINING ALTITUDE, WHEN THE LEFT WING STRUCK A RUNWAY APPROACH LIGHTING FIXTURE, REDUCING AIRCRAFT SPEED, AND CHANGING ITS DIRECTION. PILOT TRIED MAINTAINING DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AS THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND, SHORT OF RUNWAY THRESHOLD AND SKIDDED TO A STOP UNTO THE RUNWAY. PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO EXITED AIRCRAFT UNAIDED AND UNINJURED. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES TO LEFT WING, UNDERCARRIAGE, FUSELAGE, PROPELLER, LANDING GEARS, ENGINE COWLS, A BENT TAIL, AND RUPTURED LEFT WING FUEL TANK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA153](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA153), Apr 16, 2022: Stoddard Hamilton Glasair Super II (N90YY), Oxnard, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain airplane control while on final approach, which resulted in a collision with a runway approach light.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
