## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A STUDENT INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT FOR A PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE, N2128E, A CESSNA MODEL 172-N MADE A HARD LANDING WITH THE LEFT WINGTIP STRIKING THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERING OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. IT WAS REPORTED THAT WHILE THE STUDENT PILOT WAS AT THE CONTROLS DURING FINAL APPROACH TO LANDING, THE AIRSPEED WAS ALLOWED TO DECREASE TO THE POINT THAT BY THE TIME THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK OVER THE CONTROLS, THE AIRCRAFT HAD DEVELOPED A HIGH SINK RATE RESULTING IN A HARD TOUCHDOWN, LEFT WING STRIKE AND VEERED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED FROM EITHER OCCUPANT IN THE AIRCRAFT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS EXISTED DURING THE EVENT. AS OF THE WRITING OF THIS REPORT, THE NTSB HAS DERERMINED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAS RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA205](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA205), May 19, 2022: Cessna 172N (N2128E), Auburn, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s improper landing flare and the flight instructor’s delayed remedial response which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
