## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER LANDING, HALF WAY THROUGH THE ROLL OUT THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEHAVING LIKE THE PILOT WAS ON THE BRAKES. AS HE WAS SLOWING, HE LOWERED THE TAIL AND ADJUSTED HIS FEET TO ENSURE HE WAS OFF THE BRAKES. AT ABOUT 5 TO 10 MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE TOES OF HIS SHOES WERE HUNG UP ON SOMETHING. HE WAS ABLE TO FREE HIS FEET BY JERKING THEM DOWN. UNFORTUNATELY, IT SEEMS THAT DURING THIS ACTION HE MAY HAVE MOMENTARILY AND INADVERTENTLY ENGAGED THE BRAKES (TOE BRAKES), AS SUDDENLY THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED UP OVER THE NOSE. THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ON IT'S SECOND FLIGHT WITH 1.7 AIRFRAME HOURS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA245](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA245), May 29, 2022: Van Lehn Hatz Classic (N85EX), Frederick, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadvertent application of the brakes during the landing roll which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
