## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT HAD DEPARTED TROUTDALE AND AS THE PLANE CLIMBED THROUGH ABOUT 400 FEET, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE AIRMAN DECIDED TO TURN BACK TO THE AIRPORT AND LANDED IN A FIELD ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST IN A DITCH. THE LOWER COWLING WAS DAMAGED BUT THAT APPEARED TO BE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE.

FUEL SAMPLED FROM BOTH WINGS SHOWED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WATER (ABOUT 50% FUEL AND 50% WATER FROM THE SAMPLE SIZE OF APPROXIMATELY 8 OZ) IN THE RIGHT WING. THE LEFT WING SAMPLE SHOWED NO SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WATER IN SAMPLE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
