## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN STATES HE HAD FLOWN ABOUT 15 MINUTES EARLIER IN THE DAY IN THE SAME AIRCRAFT. HE WENT AND PICKED UP A PASSENGER AND ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER INTO THE SECOND FLIGHT WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE AIRMAN HAD FEW CHOICES TO LAND SO HE OPTED TO LAND IN THE RIVER NEAR SHORE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN ABOUT 4 FEET OF WATER. PASSENGERS WERE ABLE TO GET OUT AND WALK TO SHORE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA193](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA193), May 31, 2022: Vans RV-8 (N298DM), Galice, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The in-flight failure of the crankshaft gear’s alignment dowel as a result of the retaining bolt not being installed, which lead to a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
