THEY THEN TOOK OFF FROM THE SE RUNWAY AND THE ENGINE STALLED APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET AFTER TAKEOFF WHERE THE CFI TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A FIELD STRAIGHT AHEAD OF THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND 550 FEET FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST 60 FEET FROM THE INITIAL POINT OF IMPACT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WITH NO INDICATION OF ENGINE ROTATION ON IMPACT. LEFT AND RIGHT FUEL GAUGES BOTH SHOWED EMPTY, NO SIGNS OF FUEL LEAKING. AIRCRAFT RECOVERY STATED THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH FUEL REMAINING IN THE AIRCRAFT TO MEASURE. AIRCRAFT WAS INSPECTED AT STORAGE FACILITY. FLIGHT CONTROL CONTINUITY WAS CONFIRMED. PROPELLER WAS BENT AND HITTING FRONT LANDING GEAR, AFTER PROPELLER WAS REMOVED THE ENGINE ROTATED SMOOTLY, ALL CYLINDERS HAD THUMB COMPRESSION, SPARK WAS FOUND ON ALL INGNITION LEADS. NO FUEL WAS FOUND IN FUEL LINES, SCREEN OR CARBURATOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA220](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA220), Jun 1, 2022: Grumman American Avn. AA-1B (N6298L), River Falls, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s and flight instructor’s inadequate preflight fuel planning, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.
