## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A TAILWHEEL INSTRUCTION FLIGHT AT KYKM, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO LIFT THE EMPENNAGE OF THE AIRCRAFT, CAUSING A PROPELLER STRIKE. NO INJURIES, MINOR AIRCRAFT DAMAGE.

THE PILOT WAS A CFI PROVIDING INSTRUCTION IN A TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT. THE STUDENT WAS PRACTICING LANDINGS AND WAS IN CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME. AFTER THE LAST LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO OSCILLATE HORIZONTALLY DURING ROLLOUT. THE CFI ATTEMPTED TO MINIMIZE THE MOVEMENT WITH RUDDER INPUT (THE CFI DID NOT TAKE THE CONTROLS FROM THE STUDENT, ONLY MADE THE INPUT), BUT FELT THE STUDENT PRESS TOO FIRMLY ON THE BRAKES, CAUSING THE TAIL TO LIFT AND THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE RUNWAY. THE INSTRUCTOR STATED THAT THE STUDENT'S PERFORMANCE UP TO THAT POINT WAS GOOD. THE CFI STATED THAT THE STUDENT PRESSED ON THE BRAKES TOO QUICKLY FOR HIM TO INSTRUCT HER TO STOP. HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT BRIEF OVER-BRAKING WITH HIS STUDENT, BUT MENTIONED HE WOULD INCLUDE THAT IN FUTURE PRE-FLIGHT BRIEFINGS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
