## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 14, 2022 AT 18:05 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME (EDT), A PIPER PA-28 CHEROKEE AIRCRAFT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, AND OPERATED BY A COMMERCIAL PILOT FOR A PERSONAL FLIGHT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE WHEN IT LOSS LIFT THE END OF THE RUNWAY 08 AND COLLIDED WITH A ROW OF PINE TREES WHERE IT CAME TO REST NOSE DOWN TAIL UP APPROXIMATELY 350 YARDS FROM THE END OF RUNWAY 08.

VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS AND LIGHT WINDS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE PRIVATE FLIGHT WAS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (CFR) PART 91 WITHOUT A FLIGHT PLAN. THE PILOT, AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM SKYWAY ESTATES AIRPORT (60G), EATON RAPIDS, MI AT APPROXIMATELY 18:05 EDT.

ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED FROM 08 AT FULL POWER. ROTATED ABOUT 1000FT DOWN THE RUNWAY WHERE THEY GOT INTO GROUND EFFECT. AT ABOUT 800FT FROM THE TREES AT THE END OF 08 THEY HAD REACHED 63 KNOTS AND BEGAN TO CLIMB OUT. AFTER THEY CLEARED THE FIRST SET OF TREES, THE PILOT PUSHED THE NOSE LEVEL TO TRY AND REGAIN SPEED BUT THE TIRES CLIPPED THE TOP OF THE SECOND SET OF TREES. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN ITS DECENT INTO THE TREES DESCENDING THROUGH THE BRANCHES WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP RESTING ON THE NOSE, WITH THE TAIL STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR AGAINST A TREE.

WEATHER AT (60G) AT 17:55 (EDT) WAS: WIND 140 DEGREES AT 7 KNOTS, CLEAR, 10 STATUTE MILES, TEMPERATURE 29C, AND ALTIMETER 2989.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA249](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA249), Jun 14, 2022: Piper PA-28-181 (N3553M), Eaton Rapids, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain airspeed in the climb with a quartering tailwind which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and subsequent impact with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
