## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1820, THE PILOT TOOK OFF FROM THE TEXAS WIND RIDERS FLYING CLUB LOCATED AT 4985 FM 547 IN FARMERSVILLE TX. THE CLUB REPRESENTATIVE AND USPPA INSTRUCTOR OBSERVED THE TAKEOFF AND MUCH OF THE FLIGHT. THE CRASH OCCURRED ABOUT 7 MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF MILE AWAY FROM THE TAKEOFF POINT. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS SPEAKING WITH A POTENTIAL STUDENT AT THE TIME, AND DID NOT OBSERVE THE ACTUAL IMPACT. THE PERSON SPEAKING TO HIM SAID "I THINK THAT HE MIGHT HAVE CRASHED".

THERE WAS A ROW OF TREES BETWEEN THE DEPARTURE POINT AND THE POINT OF IMPACT, AND THE CRASH SITE WAS IN A IN A CROP FIELD WITH 3.5 TO 4 FOOT TALL PLANTS SIMILAR TO CORN. THERE WAS A 60 FOOT LONG SWATH CUT THRU THE CROP. THE INSTRUCTOR SAID THE PILOT WAS FACE DOWN, LYING ON TOP OF THE PARACHUTE EQUIPMENT. THE PILOT WAS EXTRICATED FROM THE BACKPACK STYLE PARAGLIDING EQUIPMENT SO RESUSCITATION EFFORTS COULD BE PERFORMED.

THE FAA INSPECTOR ARRIVED ON SCENE SHORTLY AFTER 2400 LOCAL. THE MOSTLY EMPTY FUEL TANK WAS SEPERATED FROM THE MAIN ASSEMBLY, BUT THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL, FUEL SATURATED GROUND, AND SOME STANDING FUEL WAS ON THE LEAVES WHICH HAD BEEN SMASHED DOWN BY THE IMPACT. THE PILOT DID NOT HOLD ANY FAA CERTIFICATES.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
