## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED RICE LAKE, WI (KRPD) FOR HOME BASE BRENNAND AIRPORT, NEENAH, WI (79C). BRENNAND AIRPORT WAS CLOSED BY NOTAM DUE TO CAR SHOW ON FIELD. PILOT OPTED TO LAND AT APPLETON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KATW). KATW TOWER INSTRUCTED PILOT TO ENTER LEFT DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 30. WINDS DURING FINAL APPROACH WERE 260 DEGREES AT 18 KNOTS GUSTING TO 25 KNOTS. GROUNDSPEED SLOWED SIGINIFICANTLY DUE TO SUSTAINED HEADWIND/CROSSWIND. DURING FLARE THE WIND PICKED THE AIRCRAFT UP THEN DROPPED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT SLAMMED ONTO THE RUNWAY AND VEERED TO THE RIGHT. PILOT HAD NO STEERING CONTROL AT THAT POINT. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST JUST OFF THE RUNWAY IN THE GRASS. NOSEWHEEL PANT HAD BROKEN IN HALF. NOSEWHEEL STRUT WAS BENT, FOLDING PARTIALLY UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE. PROPELLER STRUCK THE HARD SURFACE RUNWAY. TIPS WERE CURLED INWARD TOWARD THE COCKPIT. KATW TOWER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND SENT THE AIRPORT FIRE AND RESCUE TO ASSIST.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
