## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 30, 2022 AT 0900 CDT, A PILOT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WERE PERFORMING PRACTICE AUTOROTATIONS TO RUNWAY 2 AT THE IDABEL AIRPORT. AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT TRAINEE ABRUPTLY LOWERED THE COLLECTIVE WHILE THE MAIN ROTOR WAS AT A LOW ROTOR RPM. THE MAIN ROTOR BLADE FLAPPED EXCESSIVELY CAUSING THE BLADE TO FLAP DOWNWARD STRIKING AND SEVERING THE TAILBOOM CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR PILOT. WEATHER CONDITIONS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WERE VISUAL METEORLOGICAL CONDITIONS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA294](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA294), Jun 30, 2022: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada 206L-4 (N378JC), Idabel, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to apply full power during the practice autorotation recovery, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
