## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PRIOR TO THIS EVENT THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN MAINTENANCE FOR ENGINE HOT SECTION INSPECTIONS FROM 05/14/2022 - 06/21/2022 AND WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.

AFTER MAINTENANCE CHECK THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE AIRCRAFT.

FROM CRUISE FLIGHT AT FL380 AIRCRAFT HAD JUST STARTED A NORMAL DESCENT, AT FL360 CREW HEARD A LOAD NOISE AND INSTANTLY LOST THE RIGHT ENGINE.

THE INVESTIGATION REVELED THE PROBABLE REASON THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN IN FLIGHT WAS DUE TO THE COWLING DOORS DEPARTING THE ENGINE HITTING THE FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE CAUSING IT TO TRIP TO THE CLOSED POSITION SECURING FUEL FLOW TO THE RIGHT ENGINE.

THE INVESTIGATION COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE COWL DOORS WERE PROPERLY SECURED DUE TO THE COWLING DOORS AT THIS TIME HAVE NOT BEEN RECOVERED BUT PROBABLY DETACHED BECAUSE A NUMBER OF THE QUICK-RELEASE FASTENERS HAD NOT BEEN SECURED DURING MAINTENANCE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
