## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT LLANO AIRPORT. WHILE IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN, THE PILOT NOTICED VARYING WIND CONDITIONS, AS INDICATED BY THE WINDSOCK AT THE AIRPORT, AND CHANGED LANDING DIRECTION FROM RWY 17 SOD TO RWY 35 SOD SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE FLIGHT. AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT, THE PILOT NOTICED THE WINDS WERE ALMOST A DIRECT CROSSWIND AT 070 OR 080 AND DECIDED TO LAND ON RWY 17 SOD. THE PILOT EXECUTED A WHEEL LANDING AND DURING THE ROLLOUT A STRONG GUST OF WIND TURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL AND SLOW THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT OVER APPLIED THE BRAKES CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO NOSE OVER AND COME TO REST INVERTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA316](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA316), Jul 12, 2022: Piper/Cub Crafters PA-18-150 (N131WK), Llano, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll with a quartering tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
