## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A PIPER CRUISER (PA12) WAS ATTEMPTING A BANNER PICK UP MANEUVER AT PARAMOUNT AIRPORT (JY04). AS THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO PICK-UP THE BANNER, HE MISSED THE PICK-UP AND BEGAN HIS CLIMB OUT MANEUVER. THE CLIMB OUT WAS EXTREMELY STEEP, AND AT THE TOP OF THE CLIMB OUT, THE PILOT STALLED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN STALLED/SPUN TO THE RIGHT AND IMPACTED THE GROUND LEFT WING/NOSE FIRST, FATALLY INJURING THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

Probable cause: The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack during a missed banner pickup, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall/spin and loss of control at an altitude too low to recover.
