WHEN: 07/26/2022, 1700Z

WHERE: KNOX, INDIANA

A COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS OPERATING A SCHWEIZER AIRCRAFT CORPORATION G-164B, N629EH, DEPARTING FROM WHEELER AIRPORT (IG05) TO CONDUCT AERIAL APPLICATION. THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) AND USING VISUAL FLIGHT RULES (VFR). THE NEAREST AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSERVATION STATION (AWOS) REPORT LIGHT WINDS AND CLEAR SKIES (C65 261655Z AUTO 12005KT 10SM FEW038 SCT050 24/13 A3003 RMK A01)

AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER 14 CFR PART 137. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) WAS CARRYING A MIXTURE OF FUNGICIDE AND PESTICIDE. THE PIC STATED THAT HE WAS FULL OF FUEL AT 118 GALLONS OF JET A. A CHEMICAL INVOICE FOR THE ACCIDENT FLIGHT INDICATED A CHEMICAL LOAD OF 298.25 GALLONS. THE PIC STATED THAT HE WAS OPERATING OVER MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT PER A CAM 8 ENDORSEMENT IN THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE LOGBOOK. THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE LOGBOOK VERIFIED THIS STATEMENT.

THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO DEPART ON RUNWAY 26. HE REPORTED THAT AFTER THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AND SETTLED BACK ON THE RUNWAY BRIEFLY. AT THAT TIME, THE PIC STATED THAT HE APPLIED MORE POWER AND BECAME AIRBORNE AGAIN, BUT COULD NOT TELL IF THE AIRCRAFT PRODUCED ANY ADDITIONAL POWER. THE PIC STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND WITH A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE, HITTING THE RIGHT WING FIRST, COMING TO A REST UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 250 YARDS WEST OF THE END OF THE GRASS STRIP. THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY ON THE GROUND. THERE WAS NO POST-CRASH FIRE.
