## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 2, 2022 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:15PM EST, A BALLOON^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ON A SIGHT-SEEING FLIGHT ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT IN NOBLESVILLE, IN. WEATHER AT THE APPROXIMATE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AS REPORTED AT KUMP WAS THE WIND AT 4 KNOTS, VISIBILITY UP TO 10 STATUTE MILES AND 82 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. AFTER GROUND CONTACT AT THE PLANNED LANDING SITE, THE PILOT STATED THAT A GUST OF WIND INCREASED THE SPEED OF THE BALLOON. ONCE THE BASKET HAD TOUCHED DOWN, IT BEGAN TO SLIDE TOWARDS THE STREET AND POWER LINES. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY PULLED A ROPE ON THE ENVELOPE TO ACTIVATE THE "SMART VENT" TO DUMP THE AIR OUT OF THE ENVELOPE TO RAPIDLY DEFLATE IT. THE ENVELOPE DEFLATED BUT THE MOMENTUM CARRIED THE ENVELOPE ACROSS THE POWER LINES. THE WEIGHT OF THE ENVELOPE CAUSED THE POWER LINES TO ARC, DAMAGING THREE PANELS ON THE ENVELOPE. NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
