## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 10:40AM EST AIRCRAFT DEPARTED HWV FOR A ROUTINE BANNER PICKUP AND TOW TO CONEY ISLAND. THE PICKUP WAS UNEVENTFUL. AT APPROXIMATELY 10:50AM THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AN INSTANTANEOUS LOSS OF POWER JUST WEST OF MORICHES INLET AT WHICH POINT THE PILOT NOTICED LOSSES IN ALTITUDE. THE ENGINE WAS BACKFIRING

CONSTANTLY. AT FULL THROTTLE THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND CONTINUED TO DESCEND. THE PILOT MADE A DECIDION TO LAND AT THE NEAREST LAND POINT WHICH WAS THE BEACH.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
