## Narrative

ATQA REPORT # A-GL-22-003, 8023 NARRATIVE ITEM #33

DURING THE POST FLIGHT AIRCRAFT INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL DISCOVERED THE #1 ENGINE CORE COWL SEVERELY DAMAGED AND THE SLAT OUTBOARD OF THE ENGINE DAMAGED AS WELL. THE FLIGHT CREW REPORTED THAT THEY HAD NO INDICATION OF THIS INCIDENT. THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE CORE COWL SEPARATION IS INCONCLUSIVE. STRUCTURAL FAILURE WAS EVIDENT IN PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE OUTBOARD COWL AND THE LEADING EDGE FORMER WHICH HAS A STRAIGHT BREAK AND THE OTHER FORMERS ARE TORN AND BENT TO THE REAR. AIRFLOW ENTERED THE DAMAGED AREA AND THE FORCE OF THE AIRFLOW TORE THE CORE COWLS LOOSE FROM THE ENGINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
