## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 35 AND ATTEMPTING TO DEMONSTRATE A SHORT FIELD LANDING AS A PART OF HIS PRIVATE PILOT CHECK RIDE, THE STUDENT PILOT LANDED JUST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. DURING THE LANDING FLARE OUT, THE MAIN LANDING GEAR MADE CONTACT WITH THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY BEGINNING, WHICH WAS LOWER THAN THE ACTUAL RUNWAY SURFACE, AND COLLAPSED ON CONTACT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY IN THE SHORT GRASS. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO EITHER THE NOSE LANDING GEAR OR PROPELLER BUT THE MAIN LANDING GEAR DID RECEIVE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NEITHER THE STUDENT PILOT OR THE FLIGHT EXAMINER WERE INJURED AND WEATHER/WINDS WERE NOT A FACTOR DURING THIS INCIDENT. INCIDENT DOCUMENTED IN SAS UNDER TASK T-SW15-FY22-3088 AND ACTIVITY SW15202202616.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA443](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA443), Aug 17, 2022: Piper PA28 (N3572Z), Owasso, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain a proper descent rate during the short field landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
