## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INVESTIGATION: I WAS NOTIFIED THAT ON AUGUST 23, 2022 AT 1140 LOCAL TIME THAT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WHILE ON A VFR APPROACH TO KAVX (SANTA CATALINA, CALIFORNIA) FAILED TO PUT THE LANDING GEAR DOWN IN HIS CE-177RG AND LANDED GEAR UP ON RUNWAY 22. THE FAA BECAME AWARE ON AUGUST 23, 2022.

BASED ON 8900.1, VOLUME 7, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 1, A, SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE MEANS DAMAGE OR FAILURE WHICH ADVERSELY AFFECTS THE STRUCTURAL STRENGTH, PERFORMANCE, OR FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AIRCRAFT, AND WHICH WOULD NORMALLY REQUIRE MAJOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE AFFECTED COMPONENT. ENGINE FAILURE OR DAMAGE LIMITED TO AN ENGINE IF ONLY ONE ENGINE FAILS OR IS DAMAGED, BENT FAIRINGS OR COWLING, DENTED SKIN, SMALL PUNCTURED HOLES IN THE SKIN OR FABRIC, GROUND DAMAGE TO ROTOR OR PROPELLER BLADES, AND DAMAGE TO LANDING GEAR, WHEELS, TIRES, FLAPS, ENGINE ACCESSORIES, BRAKES, OR WINGTIPS ARE NOT CONSIDERED “SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE” FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS PART. THERE IS A CESSNA AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE "AD" THAT STATES ANY DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER IS CONSIDERED "SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE" THEREFORE THIS IS AN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
