## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SETTING UP FOR THE APPROACH, THE PILOT DETECTED A STRONG TAILWIND WHILE ON DOWNWIND, BUT NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO BE ALARMED. THE TERRAIN WAS HILLY AND THE APPROACH PATH WAS OVER A BASIN. TURNING AND DESCENDING ON LEFT BASE, THE HELICOPTER BEGAN TO DRIFT FROM THE SOUTH WIND. AS THE PILOT ADDED COLLECTIVE PITCH TO CONTROL THE DESCENT RATE, THE HELICOPTER BEGAN TO SETTLE. THE HELICOPTER ENTERED A SETTLING WITH POWER CONDITION. THE DECISION TO MAKE A RUN-ON LANDING WAS MADE. THE HELICOPTER SKIDS MADE CONTACT WITH THE TUSSOCK-FILLED TUNDRA WHICH RESULTED IN A DYNAMIC ROLLOVER. THE HELICOPTER ROLLED ONTO THE STARBOARD SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA329](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA329), Aug 26, 2022: Robinson Helicopter R44 Clipper 1 (N240RM), Deadhorse, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain helicopter control during a descent, which resulted in a collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
