## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2022, INSTRUCTOR PILOT WAS IN THE LEFT SEAT OF A DIAMOND AIRCRAFT DA-42 PROVIDING INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT FOR A COMMERCIAL STUDENT PILOT IN THE RIGHT SEAT. AFTER CHECKING WEATHER, THE PILOT AND COPILOT ENTERED THE DA-42 AND TAXIED THE AIRCRAFT TO TAXIWAY 07 AT ORLANDO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (ORL). THE PILOT AND COPILOT STARTED THE PRE-TAKEOFF CHECKS AND DURING THAT TIME THEY EXPERIENCED THE WEATHER QUICKLY DECLINDED, BRINGING STRONG WIND GUST AND RAIN. THEY DECIDED TO STAY ON THE TAXI WAY INSTEAD OF PROCEEDING WITH THE FLIGHT AND DID NOT FEEL IT WAS SAFE TO TAXI BACK TO THE RAMP. THE WIND GUSTS MOVED QUICKLY AND THE TOWER WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE THE AIRCRAFT OR RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE ON THE RADIO FROM THE FLIGHT CREW. THE AIRPORT OPERATIONS PERSONNEL DROVE TO TAXIWAY A07, THE CREW'S LAST REPORTED LOCATION AND OPERATIONS PERSONNEL FOUND THE AIRCRAFT TURNED UPSIDOWN. THE LEFT SEAT CREW MEMBER WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED, TRYING TO DEPART THE AIRCRAFT AND THE RIGHT SEAT STUDENT PILOT REMAINED BUCKLED IN THE SEAT AND UNABLE TO MOVE.

THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT STATED IN THE ACCIDENT REPORT FORM (6120.1) THAT VISIBILITY HAD DROPPED TO ZERO AND IT WAS UNSAFE TO TRY TO MOVE THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE HOLDING LOCATION A07 AND WIND GUST AT 60MPH LIFTED THE LEFT WING FLIPPING THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT AND THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CUT ENGINE POWER AND DID NOT REMEMBER ANYTHING AFTER UNTIL LYING ON THE GROUND, TRAPPED IN THE AIRCRAFT AND STRUGGLING TO GET OUT WHEN AIRPORT OPERATIONS ARRIVED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA395](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA395), Sep 1, 2022: Diamond Aircraft Industries DA 42 (N43RG), Orlando, FL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The flight crew’s insufficient evaluation of the deteriorating weather conditions in the area, which resulted in an encounter with a microburst.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
