## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS ENROUTE IN THE CRUISE PHASE OF FLIGHT IN MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN. A SECOND AIRCRAFT IN THE AREA WAS NOTIFIED BY THE ACCIDENT PILOT THAT HE HAD ENTERED CLOUDS AND PLANNED TO MAKE A 180 DEGREE TURN. THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND INADVERTENTLY FLEW INTO IMC CONDITIONS. RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22FA347](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22FA347), Sep 14, 2022: Skiles Kenneth C RV-6A (N992KS), Preston, ID, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The non-instrument-rated pilot’s continued visual flight into instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in a loss of control due to spatial disorientation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
