## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2022, AT APPROXIMATELY 1044 LOCAL TIME, AIRCRAFT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A CESSNA 172D, MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON INTERSTATE 66 WEST. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS OVER THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY NORTH OF FRONT ROYAL WARREN COUNTY AIRPORT (KFRR) IN STARIGHT AND LEVEL FLIGHT WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED WHAT FELT LIKE WAKE TURBULANCE, BUT VERY SOFT. THE PLANE ABRUPTLY DROPPED 50 FEET AND HAD AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT IMMEDIATLEY WENT TO GLIDE SPEED, FOUND A PLACE TO LAND AND BEGAN TO TROUBLESHOOT. HE RADIOED WINCHESTER REGIONAL AIRPORT (KOKV), DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON INTERSTATE 66 WEST. THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENDER SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. AT THAT TIME THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE AND FAA WERE NOTIFIED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
