## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR WERE PRACTICING A SHORT FIELD APPROACH TO RUNWAY 21 IN A CESSNA 310 AT MADISON, INDIANA, ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2022. ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTOR’S STATEMENT, ON SHORT FINAL TO THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE LEFT AND THEN YAWED SHARPLY LEFT. THE INSTRUCTOR CALLED FOR A GO-AROUND BUT THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AND EXITED THE RUNWAY INTO THE GRASS. THE INSTRUCTOR ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF, STATING HE HAD ONE HAND ON THE YOKE AND ONE ON THE THROTTLE QUADRANT. HE FURTHER STATED THAT THE STUDENT PULLED THE YOKE BACK WITH BOTH HANDS WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS BELOW LIFT-OFF SPEED. THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED TO THE RIGHT IN A NOSE-HIGH ATTITUDE AND STRUCK THE RIGHT WING TIP. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ROLLED LEFT AND STRUCK THE LEFT WING TIP. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ROLLED WINGS LEVEL AND SETTLED ON THE RUNWAY, EXITING THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT, CROSSED THE GRASS AND STOPPED ON THE TAXIWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
