## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SUNDAY, SEPT 18 AT 8:30AM I DEPARTED FROM PAMR TO GO HELP ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^FRIEND WITH HIS MOOSE HUNTING EQUIPMENT. I FLEW 3.2HR TO PTFO WHERE I REFUELED, THEN CONTINUED ONTO THE WRANGELL ST. ELIAS PRESERVE. I DEPARTED PTFO AT 12:50 PM AKST. I FOUND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FRIEND AND SPOTTED THE LANDING SITE (OFF AIRPORT GRAVEL BAR). I OBSERVED WIND CONDITIONS AND MADE LOW AND SLOW PASSES OVER THE LANDING AREA. AFTER I HAD DRAGGED MY WHEELS A FEW TIMES, I CAME IN FOR LANDING. I SUCCESSFULLY NAILED MY INTENDED POINT OF LANDING, AND INPUT NORMAL BRAKING PRESSURE ONTO HEEL BRAKES. I LET OFF THE BRAKES WHEN I FELT AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF FORWARD MOMENTUM OCCURRING. AS I WAS PULLING BACK ON THE STICK (YOKE), I HEARD AND FELT MY PROPELLER HIT THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A QUICK HALT, FLIPPED FORWARD (VERTICAL) AND SLOWLY TIPPED OVER ONTO ITS BACK. UNHARMED, I UNBUCKLED MY SEATBELT, TURNED MYSELF RIGHT SIDE UP, TURNED OFF THE FUEL VALVES, AND TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR OR WINDOW. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FRIEND CAME AND OPENED THE DOOR FOR ME AND I HOPPED OUT. HERE ARE THE COORDINATES OF WHERE THE PLANE IS CURRENTLY SITTING, UPSIDE DOWN: 62 DEGREES 13.758’ N, 141 DEGREES 11.725’ W

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA079](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA079), Sep 18, 2022: Piper PA-12 (N92740), Tok, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper application of the brakes, which resulted in a nose-over and substantial damage to the rudder and wings.

## Other reports on N92740 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19780718043459I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780718043459I), Jul 18, 1978: Piper PA12 (N92740), Sultan, WA, Minor damage. Pilot struck a rock during taxi, one main gear failed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
