## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS FLIGHT WAS A TEST FLIGHT AFTER A CONDITION INSPECTION. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RWY 18, VMC, VERY LIGHT WINDS. THE AIRPLANE ROLLED HARD LEFT UNEXPECTEDLY TO APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES. UNABLE TO CONTROL THE AIRPLANE, THE PILOT CUT ENGINE POWER AND THE AIRPLANE WENT DOWN INTO A CORN FIELD. THE AIRPLANE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WINGS AND EMPENNAGE. THE PILOT REPORTED NO CHANGES TO THE FLIGHT CONTROLS DURING INSPECTION. DUE TO A FUEL LEAK IN THE RIGHT WING TANK, THE LEFT WING TANK WAS FILLED WITH 11 GALLONS OF FUEL AND RIGHT WING REMAINED EMPTY. BEFORE TAKEOFF, THE PILOT REPORTED HE SET THE ELECTRIC AILERON TRIM TO FULL RIGHT TO ACCOUNT FOR THE HEAVIER LEFT WING DUE TO FUEL LOAD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA426](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA426), Sep 20, 2022: Mossman Michael D Zenair CH 601 HD (N905KM), Lebanon, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of lateral/bank control during takeoff due to the pilot’s decision to operate the airplane with a known fuel imbalance.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
