## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN STATEMENT: I ENTERED A PRACTICE HOVER AUTO AS TRAINED AND HOW I HAD SUCCESFULLY PRACTICED 3 TIMES PRIOR IN THE SAME FLIGHT. INTO WIND, ROLLED THE THROTTLE TO IDLE ALLOWED THE HELICOPTER TO BEGIN TO SETTLE. I RAISED COLLECTIVE TO CUSHION THE LANDING, HOWEVER THIS TIME WHEN I DID SO THE HELICOPTER BALLOONED TO APX 10 FEET AND BEGAN TO YAW TO THE LEFT. I TRIED TO ARREST THE YAW RATE WITH FULL RIGHT PEDAL. WHEN THIS PROVED INSIGNIFICANT, I PITCHED THE HELICOPTER TO UTILIZED THE WEATHERVANE EFFECT OF AIRSPEED. I LEVELED THE HELICOPTER JUST BEFORE GROUND CONTACT AND SLID ON THE SKIDS. THE SKIDS SUBSEQUENTLY FELL OF THE PAVEMENT INTO THE GRASS, DUG IN THE DIRT AND CAUSE A ROLL.
