## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 13, 2022, THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT PERFORMED AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON A FARM FIELD IN MIDDLEFIELD, OHIO AT APPROXIMATELY 0535 LOCAL TIME. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CRUISING AT 8000FT ENROUTE FROM MORRISTOWN AIRPORT (MMU) TO CUYAHOGA COUNTY AIRPORT (CGF). WHILE ON THE INITIAL DESCENT TO CGF THE ENGINES STARTED SURGING. AT THAT POINT, THE PILOT LOOKED AT THE FUEL GAUGES AND DISCOVERED THEY WERE SHOWING EMPTY. THE PILOT THEN DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RECEIVED A VECTOR FOR A HEADING OF 210 DEGREES IN AN ATTEMPT TO DIVERT TO GEAUGA COUNTY AIRPORT (7G8). AS THE PILOT DESCENDED OUT OF THE CLOUDS HE DID NOT SEE THE AIRPORT BUT HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE OUT A FIELD IN THE DARKNESS AND CHOSE TO LAND IN THE FIELD. UPON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT WENT THROUGH THREE SMALL FENCE ROWS WHICH CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT, BEFORE SLIDING TO A STOP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS FOUND SITTING ON ITS BELLY IN THE FIELD. THE FUEL TANKS WERE LATER DRAINED AND FOUND TO HAVE 4 GALLONS OF FUEL ONBOARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA018](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA018), Oct 13, 2022: Cessna 310 (N62368), Middlefield, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate fuel planning and inflight fuel management which resulted in exhaustion of his fuel supply and a forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
