ON 10/29/2022 THE PILOT DEPARTED WILKES BARRE WYOMING VALLEY AIRPORT (KWBW) ON A RETURN FLIGHT TO FARMERS PRIDE AIRPORT (9N7). THE PILOT WAS INTO THE FLIGHT FOR ABOUT FOUR MINUTES WHEN HE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM. THE PILOT UNBUCKLED HIS SEAT BELT. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME UNSTABLE AND YAWED IN AN UNCONTROLLED MANNER CAUSING THE PILOT TO BE THROWN FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND HITTING THE TAIL SECTION. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND CRASHED IN A FIELD KILLING THE PASSENGER ON BOARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23FA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23FA045), Oct 29, 2022: Bearhawk Patrol (N964RS), Hanover Township, PA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to unlatch his seatbelt during flight, which allowed him to exit the airplane and impact the tail, resulting in a loss of control and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
