## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 25, 2022 AT 0800 EST, A CIRRUS SF50 VISION JET, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, DEPARTED MQJ ON AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN TO 3J7. AT 400 FT AGL, THE PILOT RECEIVED AN INDICATION THE ENGINE WAS LOSING THRUST FOLLOWED BY AN ABNORMAL FLIGHT CONTROL RESPONSE. THE PILOT MOVED THE THROTTLE CONTROL WITH NO RESPONSE AND WHEN AUTOPILOT WAS DISCONNECTED, THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE. AT THAT TIME THE PILOT ACTIVATED THE CAPS SYSTEM BY PULLING THE ACTIVATION HANDLE, THE CHUTE DEPLOYED AND AIRCRAFT DESCENDED INTO A RETENTION POND CLOSE TO AN INDUSTRIAL PARK APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE SOUTHWEST OF MQJ AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23FA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23FA045), Nov 25, 2022: Cirrus Design SF50 (N15VJ), Mount Comfort, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The uncommanded activation of the CAPS autopilot mode due to corrosion of the system’s electrical components. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s failure to identify the CAPS autopilot mode…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
