## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT MADE A DOWNWIND, MID-FIELD DEPARTURE AT HIGH VALLEY AIRPARK (GA87) SUCHES, GA. DURING CLIMB OUT THE PILOT NOTICED THE ANGLE OF CLIMB WAS MORE SHALLOW THAN NORMAL. HE ATTRIBUTED THIS TO A 5-10 KNOT TAIL WIND, BEING FULLY LOADED, AND OPERATING AT A HIGH ELEVATION. HE BECAME CONCERNED ABOUT CLEARING THE TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND ELECTED TO BEGIN A RIGHT TURN INTO THE WIND. WHILE IN THE TURN, HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND PERFORMED AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING INTO A FIELD. THE GYROCOPTER WAS STILL IN THE RIGHT TURN AT TOUCHDOWN AND ROLLED ONTO ITS RIGHT SIDE. THE PILOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY AND STATED THERE WERE NO AIRWORTHINESS ISSUES WITH THE GYROCOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA072](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA072), Nov 26, 2022: Daniel Anthony Proctor M24 Orion Plus (N728RJ), Suches, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to take off from the runway midpoint with a tailwind, which resulted in impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
