## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCIDENT PILOT STATED HE AND HIS INSTRUCTOR CHECKED WEATHER AND NOTAMS ON THE MORNING OF THE FLIGHT AND AGREED THE FLIGHT COULD BE COMPLETED UNDER THE REPORTED CONDITIONS. THE FIRST LEG OF THE PLANNED CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT WAS TO MERRILL FIELD (MRI) TO CONDUCT THREE FULL STOP LANDINGS AND THEN CONTINUE ON TO THE NEXT LEG OF THE FLIGHT. THE ACCIDENT PILOT STATED THE APPROACH TO THE RUNWAY WAS STABLE BUT A LITTLE FAST, AND THE PLANE TOUCHED DOWN PAST THE NUMBERS ON THE APPROACH END. DURING ROLLOUT, HE FELT THE AIRCRAFT SLIDE TO THE LEFT. AS THE AIRCRAFT GOT CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY, HE ELECTED TO GO AROUND AND ADDED POWER. AS POWER WAS APPLIED THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND STRUCK A TAXIWAY SIGN SHEARING OFF THE NOSE GEAR. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE SIGN, THE PILOT SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, HE NOTIFIED THE TOWER AND EVACUATED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC23LA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC23LA014), Nov 27, 2022: Piper PA-28-140 (N5626U), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
