## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 10, 2022, AT 1335 MDT, A MOONEY M20J, SINGLE ENGINE AIRPLANE, LANDED GEARUP IN TAOS, NM (KSKX). THE PILOT WAS ON A PERSONAL FLIGHT FROM ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KABQ), UNDER VISUAL FLIGHT RULES TO TAOS, NM (KSKX). NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE AIRCAFT SUBSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND THE CERTIFICATED PRIVATE PILOT, THE ONLY OCCUPANT ON BOARD, INCURRED NO INJURIES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT ALBUQUERQUE, NM (ABQ) ON DECEMBER 10, 2022, AT 1247 MST.

THE PILOT STATED THAT ON DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 22, HE PUT THE GEAR HANDLE IN THE DOWN POSITION BUT DID NOT VERIFY THAT THE GEAR WAS ACUALLY DOWN. THE PILOT MADE A NORMAL APPROACH AND WHEN THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE RUNWAY, THE GEAR WAS NOT EXTENDED. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO A STOP, THE PILOT NOTICED THAT THE LANDING GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS POPPED. IN THIS CONDITION THE LANDING GEAR WOULD NOT OPERATE WHEN THE HANDLE IS PLACED IN THE DOWN POSITION.

THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER HAD POPPED 15 HOURS PREVIOUSLY AND THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS REPLACED BY A CERTIFICATED MECHANIC. THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE FACILITY AT THE SKX AIRPORT, THEREFORE FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE CAUSE OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER POPPING COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^WAS NOTIFIED BY THIS FSDO THAT A THOURGH INSPECTION OF THE LANDING GEAR SYSTEM SHOULD BE PERFORMED BEFORE RETURNING THIS AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE.

THE PILOT WAS COUNSELED ON VERIFING THE GEAR IS DOWN AND LOCKED PRIOR TO LANDING BY AN OPS INSPECTOR FROM THIS OFFICE.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSTS: PILOT FAILED TO FOLLW THE "BEFORE LANDING CHECKLIST" TO VERIFY THE LANDING GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED DUE TO COMPLACENCY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
