## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FEBRUARY 11, 2023, AT APPROXIMATELY 1411 LOCAL, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A 2007 JABIRU USA SPORT AIRCRAFT LLC J250-SP SINGLE ENGINE AIRPLANE, OPERATING UNDER 14 CFR PART 91 ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM BOMAR FIELD/SHELBYVILLE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KSYI) TO WAUKESHA COUNTY AIRPORT (KUES) LANDED IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES FROM DEKALB TAYLOR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KDKB).

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS RECEIVING FLIGHT FOLLOWING SERVICES FROM AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL (ATC), LEVEL AT 4,500 FEET MSL, AND AT 1406 DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND REQUESTED LANDING AT THE NEAREST AIRPORT. ATC ADVISED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THAT DEKALB AIRPORT WAS AT THEIR 10 O’CLOCK FOR SEVEN MILES. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THEN REQUESTED AND RECEIVED A HEADING OF 330 FOR DEKALB AIRPORT. AT 1408, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REPORTED ONE TANK FULL, ONE TANK EMPTY, AND TWO OCCUPANTS. AT 1410, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DECLARED THE ENGINE AND FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS WERE BOTH INOPERATIVE. AT 1411, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REPORTED DEKALB AIRPORT IN SITE, BUT UNABLE TO MAKE THE RUNWAY, AND ANNOUNCED INTENTIONS TO LAND IN A FIELD. SHORTLY AFTER, ATC LOST RADAR CONTACT. TRAFFIC IN THE AREA ACTED AS A RELAY AND CONFIRMED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED SAFELY IN A FIELD.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CAME TO REST NOSE DOWN, BUT OTHERWISE RIGHT SIDE UP. OCCUPANTS INCLUDED THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, ENGINE MOUNTS, AND WINGS. THIS REPORT WILL BE AMENDED PENDING THE RESULTS OF FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23LA106](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23LA106), Feb 11, 2023: Jabiru USA Sport J250-SP (N592J), Cortland, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
