## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM RHV TO HAF.

THE PILOT SELECTED THE LANDING GEAR DOWN POSITION ON THE HALF MOON BAY AIRPORT APPROACH.

THE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR DID NOT MOVE.

THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) BEGAN HIS TROUBLESHOOTING.

PIC CHECKED CIRCUIT BREAKERS; NO ISSUES NOTED.

PIC FLIES TO THE OCEAN AND TRIES TO GET THE GEAR DOWN.

PIC TRIES TO EMERGENCY EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR AND CAN NOT GET THE LANDING GEAR TO COME DOWN.

PIC PLACES THE AIRCRAFT IN A NOSE-DOWN FLIGHT ATTITUDE AND PULLS UP TO FREE THE STUCK LANDING GEAR.

PIC ACCOMPLISHED GETTING THE GEAR DOWN WITH THE ACTIONS ABOVE BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY INDICATION TO CONFIRM THE GEAR POSITION.

ATC DIRECTS THE PIC TO FLY PAST THE SJC TOWER TO HAVE THE TOWER COMPLETE A VISUAL VERIFICATION THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN.

ATC CONFIRMS THAT ALL THREE LOOKS TO BE VISUALLY DOWN.

PIC FLIES TO RHV, AND RE ACCOMPLISHES A VISUAL CHECK WITH RHV TOWER. TOWER CONFIRMS GEAR LOOKS DOWN.

PIC TOUCHES DOWN, AND THE MAIN LANDING GEAR SEEMS TO BE HOLDING; UPON TOUCH DOWN OF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR, THE NOSE FOLDS, AND THE PROPELLER MAKES CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY. THE MAIN LANDING GEAR FOLDS AFTER THE NOSE GEAR FOLDS. THE AIRCRAFT GRINDS TO A HALT ON THE BELLY OF THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA116](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA116), Feb 20, 2023: Piper PA-24-260 (N9267P), San Jose, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A landing gear collapse due to an inadequately maintained landing gear extension and retraction system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
