## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 8 OF KNOXVILLE DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (DKX). AS THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LIFT OFF THE RUNWAY THE PILOT FELT THE AIRCRAFT PUSH LEFT AND DECIDED TO ABORT TAKEOFF. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT CAME DOWN IS WAS IN THE GRASS SAFETY AREA LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT REDUCED POWER AND SLOWLY APPLIED BRAKES. THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED APPOXIMATELY 200 FEET BEFORE COMING TO AN UNKNOWN CULVERT. THE PILOT COULD NOT STOP THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE GOING INTO THE CULVERT ULTIMATELY CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. WIND SPEED WAS BETWEEN 7-9 MPH WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 12-17 MPH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA145](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA145), Mar 7, 2023: Cirrus Design SR22T (N320CA), Knoxville, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll where a gusting and shifting crosswind prevailed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
