## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

3/17/2023 - FLIGHT FROM PAFA TO 51Z 10 MINUTES INTO FLIGHT AT 3000FT, THE PIC NOTICED A DROP IN RPM AND APPLIED CARB HEAT. THE ENGINE REGAINED THE SELECTED RPM AND CARB HEAT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY LEFT ON FOR THE DURATION OF THE FLIGHT. UPON APPROACH TO MINTO (51Z), THE PIC WENT TO MAKE ONE FINAL POWER REDUCTION, WHEN HE HAD JUST “TOUCHED” THE THROTTLE, THE ENGINE QUIT ON SHORT FINAL. HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT COUGH OR SPUTTER, JUST QUIT. HE ATTEMPTED RESTART UNSUCCESSFULLY AND CALLED “BRACE” TO THE CADETS. HE STATED THAT HE SELECTED FLAPS UP. HE THEN FLARED THE AIRCRAFT AND IMPACTED THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PIC AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE UNINJURED. ENGINE QUIT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC23LA027](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC23LA027), Mar 17, 2023: Cessna 182R (N6266E), Minto, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
