## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON THE MORNING OF APRIL 4, 2023, THE PILOT DEPARTED LAKE HOOD STRIP (LHD) FOR WICK AIR (14AK) TO DELIVER HIS MAULE FOR AN ANNUAL INSPECTION. DURING THE ATTEMPTED LANDING THE AIRCRAFT LANDED LONG AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN THE RUNWAY REMAINING. THE AIRCRAFT HIT A SOFT SNOWBANK AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED NOSE OVER AT SLOW SPEED. THE PROPELLER, LEFT WING, VERTICAL STABILIZER, AND AIRFRAME OF THE M-5 ALL RECEIVED DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC23LA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC23LA028), Apr 4, 2023: Maule M-5-235C (N5644W), Palmer, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delayed decision to execute a go-around maneuver while landing with excess airspeed into a short strip, which resulted in a runway overrun and subsequent loss of control.

## Other reports on N5644W (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
