## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 7, 2023 THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS RECIEVING A BIANNUAL FLIGHT REVIEW FROM A LOCAL CFI. THEY HAD COMPLETED A FLIGHT LEG BETWEEN MEDFORD, OR. (MFR) AND KLAMATH FALLS, OR. (LMT). THE NEXT LEG WAS A RETURN TO MFR WITH AN INFLIGHT DIVERSION TO LAND AT ASHLAND, OR. (S03). AS THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS CROSSING THE AIRPORT MIDFIELD TO DETERMINE WINDS AND LANDING DIRECTION, THE CFI STATED THAT HE GAVE THE PILOT A SIMULATED LANDING GEAR FAILURE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ENGAGED THE AUTOPILOT ON A HEADING AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT AND SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED MANUALLY LOWERING THE GEAR. ONCE THIS WAS COMPLETED, HE ENTERED THE DOWNWIND LEG. BOTH THE PILOT AND CFI STATED THAT THE BASE LEG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONFIGURED FOR LANDING (FULL FLAPS, GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED, APPROX. 80-95 KIAS). ACCORDING TO THE CFI, AT ABOUT 200 FEET AGL HE GAVE THE PILOT A "GO AROUND" DIRECTION DUE TO SIMULATED OBSTACLES ON THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SMOOTHLY ADDED POWER UP TO ABOUT 70%. THE PLANE BEGAN TO ROLL AND YAW TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER AND ELEVATOR. THESE WERE NOT EFFECTIVE AND THE PLANE'S GEAR CONTACTED THE TURF LEFT OF THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PLANE CONTINUED TO ROLL ALONG THE UNEVEN TURF UNTIL THE LEFT WING CONTACTED THE BLACKBERRY PLANTS AND THEN, DURING THE LEFT "YAW" THAT RESULTED FROM THE CONTACT WITH THE BLACKBERRY PLANTS, THE LEFT WING CONTACTED A TREE ALONG THE BANK OF THE CREEK AND WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST WITH THE NOSE FACING DOWN INTO THE CREEK, THE LEFT WING BADLY DAMAGED, AND ALL THE LANDING GEAR SEPARATED FROM THE FUSELAGE. THE PILOTS EXTRICATED THEMSELVES. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS BADLY DAMAGED BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA150](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA150), Apr 7, 2023: Compagnie Daher TBM 700 (N6924G), Ashland, OR, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed during an attempted go around, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
