## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A GO-AROUND ON CROSSWIND-DOWNWIND TURN PIC REPORTED UNABLE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED. "ENGINE SPUTTERED". PIC DETERMINED FUEL STARVATION WAS CAUSE AND SWITCHED TANKS WITH NO RESULT, SO SWITCHED BACK. DECLARED EMERGENCY AND LANDED HARD, BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES, DAMAGING NOSE GEAR AND STRIKING PROPELLER. PIC STATED, "I MUST HAVE MISJUDGED THE FUEL LEVELS IN THE PLANE... IF I HAD JUST FILLED THE FUEL TANKS ALL THE WAY I WOULD HAVE AVOIDED THIS INCIDENT."

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19860514022339I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19860514022339I), May 14, 1986: Beech C23 (N66126), Rochester, NY. Radio failure due to dead battery. Suspect pilot inadvertently turned off alternator at cruise.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
