PIC NARRATIVE:

FLYING AT 2000MSL 17:06 THE RPM DROPPED FROM 2300 TO IDLING AT 1000.

UNTIL SECURING THE AIRCRAFT 100AGL ABOVE THE GROUND, THE RPM’S WOULD CONTINUE THE OSCILLATION (2300-1000) WITH DIFFERENT INTERVALS (1-8 SECOND INTERVALS) OF IDLING BEFORE GOING TO 2300 FOR A SHORT TIME.

PIC STATED MIXTURE WHICH WAS FULL RICH, FUEL SELECTOR BOTH, MAGNETOS WERE BOTH, CARB HEAT TURNED ON, OSCILLATED THE THROTTLE TO CHECK FOR RESPONSE, WHICH WAS UNSUCCESSFUL

PIC MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT 17:08L

FUEL TANKS CHECKED FOR WATER/CONTAMINANTS, NONE FOUND

LAST FUELING POINT WAS REQUESTED TO CHECK FUEL STORAGE; REPORTED ALL NORMAL

NO MAINTENANCE ANOMALY OR OPERATIONAL CAUSE DETERMINED

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA190](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA190), Apr 11, 2023: Cessna 172H (N2554L), Charles Town, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
