ABOUT 2-3 FT ABOVE THE WATER, THE GEAR ADVISORY SYSTEM GAVE AN AURAL “CHECK GEAR” ALERT INDICATING A LANDING GEAR MISMATCH WITH THE TERRAIN. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO VISUALLY CONFIRM THE LEFT LANDING GEAR WAS FULLY RETRACTED AND ELECTED TO CONDUCT A GO-AROUND. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED TREES ON THE CLIMBOUT AND SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED TERRAIN. A POSTIMPACT FIRE ENSUED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA186](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA186), May 9, 2023: Aviat A-1C-180 Husky (N416AG), Lakewood, WA, destroyed. Probable cause: An erroneous landing gear warning that led to the pilot’s decision to abort the landing, which resulted in a collision with trees during a go-around.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
