## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 11, 2023 AT 1530 LOCAL, A SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT TURNED ONTO RUNWAY 19 AT SOUTH ALBANY AIRPORT (4B0) FROM TAXIWAY A WITH THREE INDIVIDUALS ON BOARD. THE SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT INITIATED TAKEOFF AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO CLIMB. APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET FROM TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE DEPARTING RUNWAY THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA229](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA229), May 11, 2023: Cessna 172 (N1596E), South Bethlehem, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper decision to attempt an intersection takeoff in a tailwind when the full runway in the opposite, headwind direction was available.

## Other reports on N1596E (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19911117055399I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911117055399I), Nov 17, 1991: Cessna 172N (N1596E), Fullerton, CA, Minor damage. Pilot struck a fence while taxiing for takeoff, was making a turn to avoid another aircraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
