## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER COMPLETING THREE TAKE OFFS AND LANDINGS AT CAPE MAY COUNTY AIRPORT (WWD) A STUDENT PILOT AND CFI WERE PERFORMING ENGINE OUT PROCEDURES. THE CFI PULLED THE POWER TO IDLE AND THE STUDENT PILOT ATTEMPTED TO EXECUTE AN EMERGENCY LANDING.

BOTH PILOTS AGREE THAT THE APPROACH APPEARED TO BE NORMAL WITH PAPI'S INDICATING SLIGHTLY HIGH. THE CREW STATED THAT A STRONG DOWNDRAFT OCCURRED AND PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT LOW. WEATHER REPORTS IN THE AREA COULD NOT CONFIRM THIS. THE CFI CALLED FOR POWER AND BOTH PILOTS ADDED POWER HOWEVER IT WAS TOO LATE.

THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO ITS LANDING GEAR, PROPELLER, AND LEFT WINGTIP. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET SHORT OF RUNWAY 19.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
