## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE CFI WAS DEMONSTRATING A STABILIZED APPROACH TO LANDING TO THE PILOT^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING A TRAINING FLIGHT. THE LANDING WAS TO A HARD SURFACED RUNWAY (2701'X60').THE CFI WAS SOLE MUNIPULATOR OF THE CONTROLS DURING THE LANDING DEMONSTRATION. THE CFI REPORTED CALM WINDS AND NO TURBULANCE DURING THE APPROACH TO THE RUNWAY. THE CFI ARTICULATED THAT THE TOUCHDOWN WAS NORMAL WITH NO BOUNCE BUT SLIGHTLY LEFT OF CENTERLINE. SOON AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN A SLIGHT TURN TO THE RIGHT AS THE CFI RETRACTED THE FLAPS.THE CFI STATED THAT THE RIGHT TURN CONTINUED AFTER COMPLETION OF THE FLAP RETRACTION AND THE CFI THEN MADE MORE AGGRESSIVE CONTROL INPUTS ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT THE RIGHT TURN. THE RIGHT TURN PROGRESSED TO AN APPROXIMATE 180 DEGREE ROTATION AND THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE TOWARD A PARALLEL TAXIWAY. DURING THE RIGHT TURN THE LEFT WINGTIP "DIPPED DOWN" AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE HARD SURFACE TAXIWAY. THE THROTTLE WAS AT IDLE POWER PRIOR TO AND DURING THE LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS TRAVELING BELOW TAKE-OFF SPEED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN A DIRT PORTION OF THE AIRPORT. THE NTSB DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING TIP AND LEFT AILERON WAS SUBSTANTIAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA189), May 14, 2023: Cessna A185F (N185MG), Twisp, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control during landing, which resulted in a runway excursion and ground loop.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
