## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED THAT HE DPARTED IDL RUNWAY 36. UPON CLIMB OUT HE SMELLED PLATIC BURNING AND NOTICED A FIRE AND MILD SMOKE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE COCKPIT BELOW THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND ABOVE THE RUDDER PEDALS. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH HIS RIGHT FOOT, TO NO AVAIL. TURNED THE MASTE SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION AND RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT. LANDED GEAR UP IN RUNWAY 36. BY THE TIME THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP, THE CABIN WAS FULL OF SMOKE AND HAD TO FEEL FOR THE DOOR HANDLE. EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND CALLED 911. THE PILOT THEN USED HIS PHONE TO VIDEO THE SMOKE AND THEN THE FIRE THAT FOLLOWED. FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON THE SCENE WITHIN 10 MINUTES AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH FOAM. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. NO PASSENGERS. PILOT HAD NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
