## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT LANDED. TURNED TO THE LEFT AND HIT A DRAINAGE DITCH. THE NOSE GEAR FOLDED UNDER THE AIRCRAFT AND CAME TO REST IN THE DITCH. THE PILOT IN COMMAND WAS A STUDENT PILOT AND HAD A VALID SOLO ENDORSEMENT FOR THE FLIGHT TO THE ROCKINGHAM SHILOH AIRPORT KSIF. WIND REPORTED FROM THE STUDENT PILOT'S FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR THAT WAS IN THE AREA MONITORING ASOS AT KSIF REPORTED THAT THE WINDS WERE 3 KNOTS.

COUNSELLED THE STUDENT PILOT'S FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR THAT I RECOMMEND STUDENT PILOT BE RETRAINED ON CROSSWIND LANDINGS BY HIM PRIOR TO THE NEXT SOLO FLIGHT. THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ADVISED ME THAT THE STUDENT PILOT IS NO LONGER WITH HIS FLIGHT SCHOOL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA244](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA244), May 23, 2023: Piper PA28 (N8992J), Reidsville, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control of the airplane while landing in a crosswind.

## Other reports on N8992J (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910428023549I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910428023549I), Apr 28, 1991: Piper PA28180 (N8992J), Simsbury, CT, Minor damage. Pilot stated wind shift on landing caused him to lose directional control. Veered off runway. Nose gear collapsed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
