## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS ON AN OFF-AIRPORT TUNDRA LOCATION HE HAD LANDED PREVIOUSLY. LOCATION WAS SLOPED, AND WIND DID NOT FAVOR TAKING OFF DOWNHILL. PILOT'S FRIEND IN A SUPER CUB DEPARTED UP-HILL INTO THE WIND WITH NO PROBLEM. PILOT WAITED ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND THEN ATTEMPTED THE SAME DEPARTURE, BECAME AIRBORNE BRIEFLY, BUT DID NOT GAIN SUFFICIENT SPEED TO CLIMB OVER THE HILL SO ABORTED THE TAKEOFF. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON TUNDRA ON ITS NOSE. PILOT STATED HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL AFTERNOON BECAUSE EVERY DAY IN THE AFTERNOON THE WIND SWITCHED AND FAVORED A DOWNHILL TAKEOFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC23LA041](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC23LA041), May 29, 2023: Piper PA-12 (N7712H), McGrath, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s delayed decision to abort the takeoff, which resulted in a forced landing and impact with terrain.

## Other reports on N7712H (1)

- [Accident 19920724027519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920724027519A), Jul 24, 1992: Piper PA12 (N7712H), Southport, NC, Substantial damage. Aircraft collided with trees while attempting to drop confetti on wedding party. Aircraft became stuck in trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
