## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A CESSNA 172 WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 13 THAT IS 1955 FEET LONG X 40 FEET WIDE WITH A FIELD ELEVATION OF 489 FEET. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY WITH BROKEN CLOUDS AT 16,000 FEET, VISIBILITY WAS 10 STATUTE MILES, RUNWAY CONDITIONS WERE DRY. THE PILOT REPORTED HE ENTERED DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 13 AND REDUCED THE RPM TO 1600. AT 100 MPH HE ADDED 10 DEGREES OF FLAPS AND SLOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO 80 MPH. HE ADDED ANOTHER 10 DEGREES OF FLAPS AND TURNED BASE. AT APPROXIMATELY 800-900 FEET MSL (311-411 FEET AGL) HE TURNED TO FINAL TO LINE UP WITH RUNWAY 13 AND ADDED ANOTHER 10 DEGREES OF FLAPS AT APPROXIMATELY 700 FEET MSL (211 FEET AGL). HE PULLED POWER BECAUSE HE SAID HE FELT A LITTLE HIGH CROSSING THE THRESHOLD AT 70-73 MPH. HE TOUCHED DOWN AND FLOATED NEARLY ONE THIRD OF THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY DUE TO THE HIGH LANDING SPEED. HE DID NOT ATTEMPT TO PERFORM A GO AROUND AND AS THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED, HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT VEERED OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 13 INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE PILOT REPORTED INTENTIONALLY EXITING THE RUNWAY TO AVOID ENTERINING VECHICLE TRAFFIC LOCATATED AT THE END OF RUNWAY 13.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
